Get there early, but not too early
On weekdays, the tents and rides open at 10am, so be in line by 9:30am at least. Tents will be filled to capacity usually within the first hour. There's no need to get there before 9am on weekdays. Also, the great thing about German beer is that it doesn't give you a hangover, so forget the water and drink, drink, drink!

Parades and Beer Tents
If you have the time, enjoy the parade on Saturday morning then visit other places surrounding Munich during the afternoon. Do the same on Sunday (yes there are 2 different parades). Go to the tents on Monday, they will be much less crowded.

Drink Water at Oktoberfest!
I recommend drinking lots of water (in between your beers) to avoid headaches or a hangover! The beers at Oktoberfest are very big and contain more alcohol than in the U.S.

Bring Cash to Oktoberfest
You should bring cash. Some beer halls at Oktoberfest don’t accept credit cards. And you have to tip with cash. Give the tip to your waiter, don’t leave it on the table. When you pay, just give 1 or 2 euro tip.

Book early!
My tip: It is a good idea to make reservations for a hotel or hostel early! Places are booked out fast, and prices rise. The earlier you book, the better. And try to find a hotel close to the Oktoberfest, so you can walk there : )
